Rurouni Kenshin! The Live-Action Version!

The live-action version of manga/anime Kenshin from Warner Bros Jp.

Rurouni Kenshin is about a former assassin known as the Battosai, now a wandering samurai trying to help others. On his way, he meets Kaoru, a young Kendo instructor. But there’s a killer on the loose, pretending to be the Battosai…

This is basically the very beginning of the manga, introducing the main characters. It’s a mix of comedy, light romance & drama. But it’s not exactly the most exciting part of the story — hard to beat the Shishio Makoto arc, with this another assassin turned monster.

Still, the trailer is surprisingly promising, not cheasy or cheap at all, it seems Kenshin’s past trauma is really at the center of the story. Giving it some kind of “mature look”. The good thing is, it actually looks like a film, which is pretty rare when it comes to (Japanese) live-action adaptations.

It must be said/repeated it’s one of the first projects produced by Warner Bros Japan, the studio is mostly focused on producing live-action projects right now… (make your own conclusions?).

Rurouni Kenshin is coming to Japanese theaters on August 25, 2012.
