Who thought Avatar was going to change things that fast? Most producers around the world didn’t, that’s for sure. And now, in Japan, studios have finally decided to use 3D, as marketing tool, clearly, but also to present a japanese alternative to american 3D pics, at the local box office.
You’ve heard about Battle Royale 3D, to be released for the 10th anniversary of the film next November, you can now add Umizaru 3(D), one of the japanese blockbuster of the year. But it’ll be fake 3D, as it’s done during the post-production process (like, Clash of the Titans). That’s quite a problem.
Because if these 2 films do well at the box office (Umizaru won’t have any difficulties), it’s pretty obvious japanese studios (starting with Toei & Toho) will bring us in 3D more classics or even recent hits. We can also expect more fake 3D for new films, at least for a short period.
Who will produce the first real 3D japanese film? Studio 4°C, it seems. But when?
